The today and the yesterday

The today is first and always first.  This quilt is finished and on the wall.  I was able to drive 3 times today with symptoms, but minimal.  In the morning, I drove to Pier I to get my mother's room spray.  Now things will be inviting there, for her and her visitors.  This afternoon, I drove to see my mother.  I brought last year's Halloween wall hanging to put on her wall...making her very happy.  On the way home, I stopped by Michaels for tiny odds and ends..  I am improving.  I hope that my mood will improve later as there seems to be a big cement block between the head and the heart!!

Then there is the yesterday.  Last night was a chilly night for this time of year in Charlotte.  In the middle of the night, I went to a seldom used closet in the dark and grabbed an extra quilt for our bed.  This morning I found myself under this.  My husband and I acquired a lovely quilt collection BC...before children.....In Miami, I found this at an antique show, must have been at least 30 years ago.... I bought it from a Cuban man who said that his mother had made it when she was living in Cuba.  It had come over in her things.  It has always been damaged with the center of every pink flower way gone.  I bought it for the stunning quilting.  It was only $40 and I thought that the woman must have spent forever hand quilting this beauty.  Finding it on my bed this morning was a treat.  Evidently Pumpkin thought so too....

There we have it...the old and the new....
PS...more....How to get out of my mood....ha....donning this apron on which I appliqued a front from an old T-shirt from Baltimore....It suited me then, and it suits me now:)
And making healthy chicken broth for my dear ol' Ma....from my favorite recipe...Homemade Old-fashioned Chicken Stock from Susan Branch.  After it cooks for hours, I will freeze it in small containers for Mom.
The aroma of chicken soup fills my house, taking away the chill of all kinds!

  1. The quilting on that oldie but goodie is amazing! And it's so kind of you to share it with your kitty (as if you had a choice!)

I am making chicken soup right now, too, so we are poultry pals.

  2. I want you to be easy on yourself. You've had a hard year with the chest infection & the concussion, plus your Mom's ongoing health problems. Not surprising if you have some blue days, even depression. Please be as kind & generous to yourself as you would be to someone else.
