I am home from a 6 hour bedside stint at the Hospice bed. Himself is sedated with Ativan so there was no communication. So, I slept too. He is too weak to sit up by himself, never mind to get into his motorized chair.
All medical votes say that he will be bed bound forever and ever and ever.

So, I am home eating a yummy dinner left by Andy on my porch and thinking.
I am thinking. Now I have a stomach from thinking!!
I started to read an online article about death in ALS by blood clots when I caught myself.
I cannot go there. Before I go back this evening, I am going to get out a quilting UFO to focus myself.

My man is ripe for infection with his weakened state.
Sometimes it's ok to just BE ... And sit with your sleeping love in peace. No projects, no books, nothing. Love to you both.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above comment, but also if you are feeling that you would like to keep your hands busy then I find a very very very simple project is great - no or little planning! I crochet, so I just crochet the simplest patterns and i try not to worry if its a great project of nice colours!! Just keep my hands busy and my mind quiet.
ReplyDeleteI had a night out last night!! very rare for me! Very nice too!! It was Bollywood themed (a fund raiser) and lots of ladies had sari's on! So beautiful. I was proud of myself because I found the venue - with only one (ok maybe two!!) wrong turns!!!
xxxx
The person in our church community with ALS has volunteers from ALS come and take care of him. I would check into that for when he comes home.
ReplyDeleteDearest darling. Keep you hands & mind clean & busy. (sorry, just a little silliness in your dark days)
ReplyDeleteI agree that maybe a very simple project of handwork would be soothing to do while you sit at the hospice. How are your hexies doing? Or something similar. And maybe don't worry about UFO's that require too much thinking/planning. You're more likely to make decisions now that you won't be happy with in the future. Save that for later.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, do check into volunteers for some help and relief for you when Mr. O gets home. It's not healthy for you to try and do it all. And no more reading sad/scary ALS articles right now! That is probably not so good for you to do either.
Thinking of you and sending some ((Hugs))
I sat and tatted a simple collar, just therapeutic. Sometimes in the evening I do sock knitting.
ReplyDeleteBusy hands= less stress.
Hopefully your local ALS group will be able to help you with caring.
Hugs
Sometimes I'm not sure what to say so I send you hugs.
ReplyDeleteIt's cold and windy here at the moment, but that's not interfering with the warm thoughts and hugs I'm sending you.
ReplyDeleteHi, Diane. May you be granted the strength and courage and patience to help your husband through this. I hope the stitching will help you.
ReplyDeletebest, nadia
