The joy in my heart...

  •  Guess who had her first outing in my car in 10 months, since double pneumonia and infected gallbladder in August, the fall out of her wheelchair on her head in September, C-Diff in October, UTI going round the bend in Jan..More C-Diff...but she is still here and she is 91...Yeah Alice Franzen Clemons Burt!!!  Unbelievable..she was so clear minded today.  Two staff members lifted her into my car.  She couldn't swallow much..two bites...but loved it.  She didn't remember the neighborhood lake we always ate by..but she loved it.  Her voice was a Parkinson's whisper, but her eyes sparkled with joy:)  My heart....

The bed sheet fix..

I have declared for myself, today...May 7th as a "just do it" day.  My mother is in a hospital bed at Sunrise Assisted living...at a fortune a month.  I want to whine that with all the money she pays, there should be enough hosptial bed sheets to go around instead staff daily trying to squeeze on regular sheets.  So, since it is  a no whining day....I took home a sheet and made an insert so that it would fit her bed.  I am now going to put her name on the sheet and take it over to her.  Done...!!!

Celebrating life

Mom, in her new Hospice wheelchair that supports the ever weakening neck and her legs.  She is holding her sippy cup:) and playing with bubbles.  Her teeth are missing due to dry mouth from Parkinson's medication.  When that happened, of course she hit me up for tooth fairy money:)  Life is good today.  She is on her way to the front of Sunrise for a sit under the tree after 3 weeks in bed.  Clear minded with sense of humor intact, her voice muscles weak, she whispers her gratitude....I shout it out.

Scary...My mother will live forever....right????

Yesterday my mother called me to say that the folks at assisted living said that she should go to the hospital but she didnt want to.  She asked me to turn around from my route to the pool...bathing suit or not...and take her to urgent care.  Now, I have arthritis and she is 90 years old with Parkinson's..albeit a very clear mind.   No way Jose....so I told her she had to behave and do what she was told to do and go to the hospital.  I was there in 10 minutes and while I was changing from my suit in her bathroom, the ambulance folks had already arrived, putting her on the stretcher...She was screaming in pain and I was telling myself to be brave, very brave...Come on Diane...you are 63...Grow up.  She was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia...I never knew that could be painful.  So scared was I...but friends abound and one who works in that hospital came down and was angel of the day...Thank you Drenna!!!  Today, my mother is sitting up, eating ice cream and writing a poem...but not out of the woods...on 3 IV antibiotics...I spend the days and my sister is spending the nights....It is soooo scary. I know that I have had more than most with my grandmother living till 99 and my mother now at 90.......but...I so want forever....
