Living Life Covid Style

Covid socializing 2020 and 2021.  In the garage, door wide open, masked, 10 feet apart, heater and quilts...OK...hats too...Show and Tell, the One Block a Day Challenge for 100 days.

I love my Charlotte Modern Quilt Guild  Last night we had this speaker from Washington State.  All by Zoom.  It was so wonderful.  We had 52 participants....One from Australia, others, not members.  I think I might join the Seattle and Portland Modern Quilt Guilds to visit their meetings and speakers..The new Covid style  meet ups. Our Guild is going to do again, placemats for Meals on Wheels.  Their group has changed with the pandemic.  I am going to have Lynsey and Dylan make some as well.
The Good Vibes National Quilters are having a UFO 12 month finish deal, to help us get going.
This blue and yellow pinwheel in on my list of 10 UFOs.  I could have put 100 on my list...but I so wanted to be modest.!!  Never the less, I refuse to be left behind.  There are only a few more days of January.  I quilted half of this tonight and plan to finish it in no time.  I am Covid driven!!!

Now we are being told by Science to wear two masks or doubly reinforced masks.  I love this style
After a few tries, it is easy as pie.  Plus she has a free video tutorial. Two layers with a filter or two in the middle, and ties that adjust themselves.

New and improved Olson mask tutorial  from Sew She Can....my favorite mask tute...I ordered filters online...mailed from America!!

Debra C...Thank you for your comment.  Would you give me your email address so I can chat more with you about the cutter xo Thx.

Pouring rain in Charlotte.  When I get stressed, I go onto my screened in porch and lift my weights.  I can do 25 bicep curls with the 6 pounds and 25 straight and side with the 3 pounds.  My PT told me that this would help with my balance.  I know I told this before, but for my own reminder, I must tell it again. Tomorrow the sun will shine..

PS  Tonight I played two hands of Canasta with Lynsey.  She went out on me BOTH times..leaving me holding the bag.  Then I played Old Maid with her...yup...She left me holding the Old Maid card too...Is it red wine or chocolate, to soothe my ego..????

Glum

Starting work on this Indian Hatchet
Fat Quarter top from:
Sew Can She

Feeling glum here...the state of the world...shootings and death and sickness.
And, of course someone's upcoming operation...
I am such a wimp.  I have had this operation 400 times..in my head..
What we do to ourselves.

Collision
Wailing of the sirens
calling after  me
I can hear them screaming
"EMERGENCY!"

Ageless, weightless, spirit, I
like a snowflake in the sky,
soaring, floating, dreaming, I,
transient like a butterfly!

Sunday is my mother's birthday.
Sunday is Cinco de Mayo
Thursday is my mother's death day
Sunday week, is Mother's Day......glum

Fun notes here, from my favorite:  Charlotte Modern Quilt Guild
We have fundraiser table.  We bring things to buy from each other.
No prices...only donations into a jar.
Found these lovely blocks...all finished...
I think I can get two quilts out of these..

Our charity focus is on place mats for Meals on Wheels.
We are trying to make 700 for November...to give for the holidays.

I seem to have very little energy to sew.
Most of the time I am cooking up creative scenarios of my
upcoming surgery....grrrrr, missing my dear Mr. O'Quilts!!!

This grandmother feels 100 years old..
So.not putting up with any grief from anyone.
Working on summer plans for the children.
Young ones going to a wonderful camp, fourth year..
So far, the 14 year old is going to the beach with his mother, et al.
Evan is taking a one week cooking class for adolescents and volunteering
to help out at Camp Soar (developmentally challenged) for three days..
Next up for him...signing up to volunteer at the library.

I do not know when I will be able to drive after my operation.
Praying my daughter will come home to help.
It was hard to find spots to volunteer as most places need youth to be 15

The pool pump at the center is broken...no exercise all week.
No chocolate in the house..
I sense that old friend coming back to bother me....Pearl
Poor Pitiful Pearl...I certainly hate that woman.!!

Life as we know it....

Baby Ava Renee
My grandchildren's new sister arrived today.
Great excitement all around.

Evan sick as a dog with a terrible type of strep
Hopefully the others are not right behind him.
No excitement there.

Tonight...such great fun at my favorite event:
Charlotte Modern Quilt Guild

We have a challenge re:
Sherry Lynn Wood
Whose story, by the way is just too awesome.
We took a piece of clothing from the donation table.
Mine was the rayon palm trees on orange shirt...challenge is to make a
36 x36 inch square using only old fabrics..not from our stash.
I found this circle print from an old dress at the Goodwill.
I love a challenge like this!!!

Here are the blocks from our purple group challenge.
A challenge it is....Oh, my..
Not my idea of beautiful...
Embellishment? What can I cut them up to be...or fabric to add..etc.
I just love the creativity ahead..
Was someone speaking of Easter???
I saw this Facebook clip...putting chocolate chips in a Pyrex bowl,
covering them with Peeps...melting them in the stove or microwave..
I forgot which...and once melted, scooping them like a dip with
Graham crackers....
Good Lord, I will never lose weight.!!

Guilds and Bees

I am in two Guilds and three Bees...so love that quilting!!!  The Guilds are very different.  The Charlotte Modern Quilt Guild  has about 50 members.  We are small and warm and cozy with swaps and block exchanges, parties, outreach options and friends.

The Charlotte Quilters' Guild is about 200 people with international speakers, quilt shows, small bee options, outreach options and friends.  Our quilt show is coming up.in early March.  Check it out .here.   Both are wonderful!!  Lucky us in Charlotte, NC.

This month's swap for the CMQG is: Drawstring Bag Tutorial  I just finished mine now...the tute is sooo easy and fun.

This month's block exchange for CMQG is: Hugs and Kisses  This tute is also very easy...a take on the Indian Hatchet block, by many other names.  In about 15/ 20 min, I finished 14 of them...ha!!  The instructions are to use "Emerald"...the color of the year.

A great tip that I got from this tutorial, was to iron the line instead of the time consuming drawing the stitching line.  This is why I finished so quickly:)
Sharing now my excitement about next Saturday.  I am preparing now to go to Leah Day 's  free-motion quilting workshop at the Sew Much Fun quilt store in Gastonia, NC.  I do not know if spots are available.  I just know that I was first on the list!!!!  So wonderful:)
