This Was The Day....

 Today we went to the quarterly ALS clinic.  It was quite a day, from 8:30 to 3:30 with 10 professional  visits and a collection of patients in all stages of ALS.  The big Doctor did the ALS ice bucket challenge...so much fun!! 

 My man has declined in his disease breaking many hearts, especially mine.  Soon in our home will be a Hoyer lift for transferring, an external ventilator called a Trilogy breathing machine and a suction machine.  He has also made an appointment in October for a feeding tube.  I just hate it.

While we waited, this quilter finished 3 hexie flowers.  Quilting through the stressors. 

 My wonderful Wednesday group, all hand stitching the binding down on Jean's quilt.

Moving on....Mr. O"Quilts and I needed some continuing education credits, so we went together today to a workshop on Teen Suicide..  Good thing that I had these with me to make!!!!!!!  It sort of softened things...

Back in the day, my children went to high school at  Northwest School of the Arts here in Charlotte... She for music, he for technical theater.  It was so wonderful then, even though we had to bus them across town.  As it happens, it is still a wonderful school.  During lunch we had a presentation that students had written...see it here..... Teen Health Connection, Youth Suicide Drama  They did a brilliant job!!  Standing ovation:)

The crowds and power points clicked in my concussion stuff...ever lasting, but Himself was with me and we carried on with some interesting lectures.  At home, exhausted, I realized how much it impacted me, even though I have been in the field for 35 years. I think the concussion has sucked my energy.  I am changed. I started feeling sad that I am not strong enough to take my grandchildren to the St. Paddy's Day parade tomorrow, etc, whining ad nauseum.  All  out of sorts.... I am...thinking I will just go to bed.  But, of course, what does a good quilter do first to try to get right with herself....a few four patches.  That, and the morning light is all that is needed!!!

My Joy is here...Arrived...OMG

She is here!!!  I can tell that she is wonderful by the way she looks at me already:)  This  Janome 8900 machine is huge...almost industrial and you should see the foot pedal.  Nose was pressed to the window all day for the big brown and yellow truck.  At 5 pm...up it came.  I was so very happy to see my UPS man that I gave him a potholder:) 

 But, then I had to leave for Guild.  Himself opened it up on the dining room table....no water aerobics or errands for me tomorrow...I will be oh, so  busy!!!

Locally, I buy all my Janome things from Peggy at AAA sewing.  She could not match Quiltcon prices for this machine, or I would have bought it there(:    Still AAA is the best place to get all Janome things locally and to have any machine serviced.  Lucky me got Quiltcon price without having to go to Quiltcon:)

Lately, I am enamored with Craftsy.   Craftsy English Paper Piecing is on its free block of the month page.  It is very well done.  This block is the block of the month for Charlotte Modern Quilt Guild.

The awards for the Charlotte Quilt Show next weekend were given out tonight.  My "Grandma and Me" won an honorable mention...My grandmother would have been proud!!!

Hexies

I love my modern quilt guild...They inspire me :)  Here, not only am I using fabric that I bought in Japan 40 years ago...but making my first hexies in 30 years!!!  Even as I write this, I am amazed at the time frame...

It is hard not to get swept up in the enthusiasm....
