My Wild Irish Rose and My Wild Southern Daisies

Just in from Cork, Ireland. Our Aoife, 11 months, the Wild Irish Rose.
Picture from the beach:  Our Lynsey on the climbing wall.
The girls:  Ava and Lynsey
The Beach Boys...newly 16 year old Evan, 11 year old Dylan and their loving and generous step-father.

In my constant quest to accept my age and the physical issues that come with it, I got myself some online presents.  New canes...With brain drain and stress, I forget so much.  Now, I can have two in the car, two by the front door, one on the porch...Dear me..., just like my glasses.

Great time last night on Zoom...Charlotte's Modern Quilt Guild hosted
Quilting fun takes my mind off the dismal and sad.  This was great.
Charlotte has a wonderful Charlotte Modern Quilt Guild
Some of my favorite take-aways from last night's zoom:

Today was the first day that I did not cry in 2 months...Just a wonderful day.
Some of my furniture is back.  Friends and I had yummy lunch and visit at
Then, they came back home with me to brain storm and organize my newly painted and floored space.
Friends are good.  Friends are real good.

Head Above Water!! Feet on the Ground!! Onward!!

Here is how we are living, my friends. Week 7 after the flood.
This is how the children and I deal with it.
The house, empty, now has an echo which delights them.
Someone does Tik-Tok and drama....her daddy's hat and her grandma's reading glasses.
The other one is on his game set absolutely screaming at the machine...OMG
Here is Aoife and her daddy enjoying their new house.

When a lovely package of Australian fabric comes from Dawn....this is their response to fabric....all fabric packages....they get excited to see a package....and it is FABRIC  ha ha ha!!
Of course they do clutch the cookies...and all this when dear Dawn included presents for them which they loved.
This treat from Cabbage Rose in Texas...going out of  business sale...is the fault of Marie.
She sent me a text from Iowa so I would not miss out on the sale...friends!!!!

Wabi-sabi quilts shared this interesting video Furoshiko Wrapping Cloths

Think I am going around the bend.  This is the second post I totally deleted by mistake....I had even saved it.  Where is my mind/?????  Send it back if you find it.!!

About my daughter.  The family is not moving to Ireland.  This is a summer home they bought when the family's neighbor moved to a nursing home..They are fixing it up to rent out for Air B&B.  Slow progress with a baby. I love watching the process.  It brings joy to my heart.

Meantime, the storm continues, as my only brother celebrates his 69th birthday in the hospital. He has cellulitis which has gone into the blood stream. He is on IV antibiotics.  I cannot do a thing about it...actually I cannot do a thing about most things, it seems...

I have not sewn nor read a book in a few weeks...I am sharing a few of Linda's Show and Tell.
Her repro is stunning..
A house warming present with meaning for the doggie they lost
And a DONE of a group quilt forever ago...
Coming home after the children's Karate, my  neighbors all out to meet me.

Life's miracles do shore us up.
Charlotte summer, 90 degrees and so humid.
Never mind says our Christmas (Thanksgiving ) cactus.. put out to pasture for two months already....
And, so it goes......
Shoshu....you are a dear to miss me.
If you send me your email address I can thank you properly
xo
PS...A phone call this evening...painters coming by tomorrow at 8 am to collect my paint chips and start taking down the fake paneling....Wahoo...I see the sun may shine this week.  Perfect timing as the children are off to the beach.

Another PS  I just heard back from my brother's wife.  They took his TV privileges away as he has no money...Can you believe that...OMG  I am disgusted...They moved him to a room with no TV.

Stay at Home Order Made my Hair All Gray

Aoife is so happy.  Today she is 9 months old, cruising the furniture and having a grand old time.
Here the Flame Azalea that my mother gave me.....to remember her by....Is already losing the leaves in spite of spring...Although we do have a freeze warning tonight...Crazy.  I was freezing at 57 degrees today...so missing Miami.
Somehow I am still getting used to my cataract operation and my glasses being gone.  Trying to figure out reading and the computer.  I had bought a pair of readers at Target for $16.  Then I found these online for $12 for FOUR pair and cases. They are great!!

I do not even remember having white Irises,,, Boy am I a mess.
Yesterday, I was a bit...OK...a lot on the crabby side.  Lynsey picked garden flowers for me.
That certainly got a smile and a thank you.

I have been beside myself trying to get AOL pictures on my I-phone to work again.
Tonight I called Verizon.  After 15 minutes she said to connect with Apple help.  I called Apple help and they said I do not have that kind of plan...talk about crabby.  In disgust, I added another AOL app and voila...big girl Grandma did it herself...so tonight I get to blog!!!
Lynsey, the creative cook has "discovered" a healthy way to drink her 7 up.
A red pepper bowl!!
As for sewing today, I cut the 3 inch squares for snowballing my Morris 10 inch blocks.
A magical friend sent me 3 pounds of chocolate...Dove, since I am not really a bird person.!!
I like my Doves from the candy aisle.

A few little ditties....I found on I Need Fabric.com
   Grunge on sale.

Below, a favorite of mine.

How could I not end my post with another picture of Aoife at her nine month check up.

Welcome Home to Aoife Rose....and More

Bye bye hospital...I am in the car going home.  I am three days old. xo
And, my features are just like my daddy's!!!!!!!  But, I have my mother's Italian like skin.
The co-sleeper her daddy made..hmmmm   She no like.
I do believe , however, that her screams are in perfect pitch like her mother .
She wants to be held and sleep in her mother's arms.  I do not blame her.
She has been through a lot too.
Rosie, the dog, meets Aoife.
Grandma here is unfocused and befuddled....must be Aoife's fault...Love, you know!!.
Tonight I had a great cul-de-sac get together with my widow group.
Thank you Pat and friends!!!
So nice to be out and safe and laughing.

Lovely Civil War Repros...Make me want to sew again.
The children left today for a week with their mother.
The sound of silence is so comforting. I want to stay up all night and sew!!
For some reason...I want to make civil war quilts..
However, instead,I will soon be looking for sheep and chicken patterns
in Anna Marie and Denise Schmidt's fabric styles.

Interesting post!

Just thinking and being happy for my daughter.
Aoife is just lovely.
My daughter has great health insurance.  Her husband works for an Irish company, but he lives in Portland.
This birth came with a private nurse and a suite so the daddy could sleep in his own bed.

Meantime, My son went to the low-fee clinic yesterday after waiting a week for his appt.
They told him that it was a $50 co-pay.  He said that he did not have it and that is why he was at that clinic.  They told him that they would not see him without the $50.
He begged them..His wrist hurt very badly.  It is now 2 weeks since his accident.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out $3.  The clerk said OK...We will take it.
He saw his doctor who then said...Oh, we do not do casts here...we have to send you to low-fee clinic number two...downtown.  They will call you for an appointment in the next two weeks.
He was so disgusted at being rejected at clinic number two that last night he headed downtown to the main hospital.  They took the $40 I had given him.  Then, the doctor told him that emergency rooms do not put casts on...  He is still in pain with no  help.
Now my son is a great worker.  He has  two years of college in automotives.
He is a car mechanic.  He cannot work with a broken wrist and meniscus tear.

On the way out of the clinic, he saw two older women being escorted out by security guards.
They were crying.  Evidently the clinic had screened everyone for Covid and given them a yellow sticker for clearance.
The women had stepped outside for a minute...and were not allowed back in because they had been outside.
Now their Covid testing stickers were no good.  These women did not understand the process.
There was no one kind to explain it.
They, too had to go home without healthcare.
Escorted away by security guards????!!!!!  Really??

I am becoming radicalized...(again)
A country like ours without healthcare is a sin.
Now, so many more are without insurance...due to losing jobs with the virus.
Thank you for listening to my rant.

We cannot be the only family whose finances have been ravaged by catastrophic disease
Healthcare for ALS stole our money
Healthcare for Parkinsons stole my mother's money
And so it went....and so it goes..

Interesting here:

Trouble here...so annoying.  I had this vintage green from the 30's that I had purchased from an estate sale.  I think the color is distorted on this picture...I also had a pack of 30's reproduction fabric cut
5x10 inches.  Brilliant me sewed along all of them to make an elongated triangle...OOOOPPPS
I drew the line diagonally like I do for HSTs   WRONG!!!!!
I have now wasted my precious fabric...What to do now???  OMG How did I do this??

Thank you all for the nice welcomes on my blog for the arrival of Aoife.
I certainly plan to keep boring you all with her progress and her beauty!!
After all, that is what a grandma does!
