Life per Grandma O'Quilts

Aoife, my heart...last few days in Ireland at a family function.

Finally finished...took forever as I dawdled and dawdled...
In the bright light of the day. (with backing)
In the dusk, colors fade and take on that subtle evening hue..
I had to make myself finish this top.  It has been going on and on forever.
Will now piece the backing and put it in the quilting pile.  Money may loosen up a bit with my darlings moving back with their mother.  I may choose to have a few long armed so I can gift them.
Meantime, I am all over the place trying to find places for my excess of trinkets, etc. The family collections of a life time.

As I work on downsizing, I found a huge batt of Insul-brite...cutting some of it into 8 inch squares for my beloved potholders.
Change is so hard...aging is too.
Today's relaxation on my screened in porch...lovely.

My broken heart presents this:
I have no control

But, I can control this:
My heart that knows that love can only be given by small things with great love (Mother Teresa)
I try to spread it one potholder at a time.  If there is an outside chance that this mini piece of useful art can bring a smile to someone else....It is so worth the try. xo

Practice Self Care

Stress, stress is everywhere ..We had better practice self-care.
What does that mean???
For me, it means splurging on fabric sales. Fabric has increased in cost to $11.95 a yard.
That is hard to swallow. This fabric was $4.95 a yard. It is wonderful.
Sitting outside in 75 degree weather on a sunny day!! Nothing better!!
Funky new old lady half glasses to match my eyes...how very vain!!
I just guessed at the lens strength, 2.75.  I think it is too strong.
Sitting on my screened in porch with the dog and a book.
Right outside my sewing room window is Ms Carolina Wren and her eggs.
Soon, I see two Carolina Wrens.
According to my dear birder friend,  Mr Carolina Wren comes to help out, once the babies have hatched.
Amazing knowledge!! I cannot see the babies but I can hear them.
So can Stitch, therefore my son encased the nest area with chicken wire.

Just for the record, this is ALS awareness month.
I married this wonderful man June 1, 1980. I was so lucky and I am so grateful.

My Soul is Saved by Fabric Art

My soul had better be saved by fabric art...cuz there are riots tonight in Charlotte.
Right across from the Art High School where my children went to school
Looting, police in riot gear...OMG..
Just go sew....Grabbing fabric strips to sew...random, brain free sewing.
Also 4 inch patches...one to another for a future four patch.
Stress here...school is the worst...Isolation is next..money is next..
However, I am working on being more like Boo
Just look how he relaxes.

The other day , it was two am...
Hopefully I was smart enough not to post something stupid at this hour.
I have done that before...
The children are having a hard time missing the structure of school
They miss their friends.  They miss other family members.
They cling to us.  They stay up too late.
We stay up too late.
My son is now handling his stress by changing the oil in our cars.
I am making masks and cloth napkins.
That was yesterday.

Today, I am getting a grip.  Zoe and I chilling on the screened-in-porch.
Reading and breathing under shelter, in the rain.

Blueprint is going out of business....OMG one more thing..Thank goodness for now..Creative Bug is still around...for how long??  I am itching to know..

Karen, send me your email address so I can thank you properly for my blog comment.
The napkin making is an old idea, new to me.
I make them one sided, just hem the edges.  Some folks serge the edges, but that
is not for me.  It is really a perfect, no think project for these times.
I hope you start sewing again soon.
Even simple napkin making is life saving.
And life saving is priceless..
